Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you
might want to know

If your question isn't answered here, send me a message — I'm always happy to help.

Getting Started
Do you offer a free consultation?+
Yes — I offer a free 20-minute introductory call so we can get a sense of each other before committing to sessions. It's a chance for you to ask questions, share what's brought you here, and decide whether we feel like a good fit. There's no obligation whatsoever.
How do I book a session?+
You can use the booking page to request an appointment, or email me directly at therapyxplorer@hotmail.com. I'll be in touch within one business day to confirm.
Do I need a referral from my GP?+
No — you don't need a referral to book privately. You're welcome to reach out directly whenever you feel ready.
How Sessions Work
How many sessions will I need?+
It varies depending on what you're working on. CBT therapy typically runs for 8–20 sessions, though some people benefit from fewer. We review progress regularly and you always have the final say on when you feel ready to finish.
Do you offer online sessions?+
Yes — all sessions are delivered via secure video call. Many clients find online sessions just as effective as in-person therapy, with the added convenience of joining from home and not needing to travel.
Do you offer in-person sessions?+
My main way of working is online, which lets me see clients from right across the UK and internationally. In-person sessions can occasionally be arranged on request, depending on location and availability — get in touch and we can discuss whether that's possible for you.
What do I need for an online session?+
Just a private, quiet space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone (a laptop, tablet or smartphone all work fine). I'll send a secure video link ahead of each session.
Is there anything I need to do between sessions?+
Usually, yes. CBT is a skills-based therapy, and a lot of the real progress happens between sessions through small, agreed tasks — practising a technique, noticing a pattern, or trying something new. These are always realistic and built around your life, never generic homework.
Privacy & Practicalities
Is everything I share confidential?+
Absolutely. Everything discussed in sessions is completely confidential. As a BABCP accredited practitioner, I follow strict professional and ethical guidelines. The only rare exception would be if there were a serious risk of harm — which I would always discuss with you openly first wherever possible.
How much do sessions cost?+
Session fees vary depending on the type of support and your circumstances. Please get in touch directly and I'll be happy to share current rates and discuss what might work for you. I aim to make my services as accessible as possible.
What's your cancellation policy?+
I ask for as much notice as possible if you need to rearrange or cancel a session — this is something we'll agree clearly when you book your first appointment.
What if CBT isn't the right fit for me?+
That's completely fine, and it's exactly what the free initial consultation is for. If I feel your needs would be better met by a different type of support, I'll say so honestly and try to point you in a helpful direction.
